Vernon L. "Pete" Dolan, age 89 of Diamond, IL passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Morris Hospital.
He was born on October 2, 1935 in Byron, IL to Henry and Marguerite (nee Cross) Dolan. He grew up on his family's farm and started working on it at a very young age. He had an early interest in airplanes, making his first solo flight at 17 years old. Pete served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War as a helicopter mechanic. He was an air traffic controller in South Korea and a helicopter crew chief in Germany. He married Martha Bilbrey, and for the last almost 50 years they made their home together in Diamond.
Pete was a busy man. He worked hard all his life up until his mid 80's. He was employed at Bailey Printing and Publishing, was known as "Pete the Hardware Man" at Ace Hardware in Diamond, retired from mechanical maintenance with Commonwealth Edison and worked at the Grundy County Administration Building in Morris.
He is survived by his wife Martha, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild; his brother, Thomas (Fumiko) Dolan and his sister, Valerie (the late Jerry) Westholder; as well as many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and long- time friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Ferrari Funeral Services, 1044 Ferrari Drive, Coal City, IL 60416. Burial will follow with full military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
