Sergio N. Oceguera, age 72 of Coal City,IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 10, 1951 in Cuba to Sergio H. and Marta (nee Diaz) Oceguera. He and his family escaped Cuba to Spain, then Puerto Rico before coming to the mainland United States, knowing no English but he went on to become a United States citizen. Sergio met Margaret "Rocky" Redfearn and they were together for 42 years building a family with three daughters, 3 sons-in-law, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was a devoted family man. He worked as a truck driver, beginning over the road and eventually switching to local routes. Sergio was an avid fisherman and enjoyed it most with his fishing buddy, Ray. He was also a skilled wood worker and animal lover.
He is survived by his wife, Rocky; his children, Jeneane (Ernie) Ferguson, Doniel (Rob) Smith and Marta (Joe) Spillie; his grandchildren, Dean Ferguson, Alysa Kline, Joseph Spillie, Hunter Zaletel, Nicolas Smith, Katelyn Spillie and Tyler Spillie; great-grandchildren, Jessica Spillie, Lonnyei Payne, Kai Micheal Spillie, Jaylen King, August John Spillie and Calum Joseph Spillie.
He was preceded in death by his biological father, Sergio H. Oceguera; his mother Marta Aldama and his step-father, Enio Aldama.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A family Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 1895 East Stellon Street, Diamond, IL 60416
