Robert G. Bernico, (Bob) 82, of Crest Hill, IL passed away on Tuesday July 14, 2009 at Salem Village in Joliet; He was born on December 29, 1926 in Chicago, IL to the late Henry and Veronica Bernico.

Robert was a WWII Navy Veteran serving on service vessel USS Furse (DD882), witnessed two nuclear bonds at Bikini Island off the pacific, and earned a WWII victory metal. Also served as one of the first alderman of Crest Hill, IL.

He is survived by his wife Lillian (Lilyquist) Bernico of Crest Hill, seven children, Kathie Haire, of Joliet, Barbara (Gerry) Hambrick of Braidwood, Mary (Chuck) Jekabsons of Oregon, Bob (Sharon) Bernico of Ottawa, Steve (Maureen) Bernico, of Yorkville, Lorene (Albert) Polesel of Rockdale, Daniel (Nikki) Bernico of Ogelsby, nineteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, .

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son in law Gilbert Haire, and a granddaughter Susan Haire,

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday July 17, 2009 at The Fellowship Bible Church 122 Morris Street Joliet, IL Pastor Chuck Rains will officiate with inurnment with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at 11:00 AM . Visitation will also be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of service.
