Robert V. Ames
6/24/1947 – 5/15/2023
On May 15 th , Robert (Bob) Ames of Coal City, Illinois, passed away at the age of 75 surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Bob, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather leaves behind his wife of nearly 54 years, Jill (Dragoo) Ames; his children Stacy (Mark) Miller and Victor (Leah) Ames, and his grandchildren Katelyn Miller (Mike Kipka), Mark (Lily) Miller, Samantha, Jessica, and Derek Ames.
Bob is preceded in death by his brother Tom Ames. He is survived by his sisters Sue (Larry) Gerke and Kathy (Larry) Sargis and brother Keith (Felicia) Ames and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was born to the late Victor and Eileen (O'Leary) Ames on June 24 th , 1947 in Blue Island, IL. He was married to his wife, Jill, on June 21 st , 1969 after knowing her since the first grade. He later graduated from University of Illinois Chicago with a degree in Physics in December of 1969.
Bob worked for Ford Motor Company for 35 years. He started as a mechanic at a Ford dealership and was later brought on by Ford Corporate where he would retire as a Parts and Service District Manager in 2005. Anyone who knew Bob, knows that he bled Ford blue with his years of dedicated service at the company, countless Ford vehicles and love for all things with a motor.
For the last 11 years, Bob volunteered for 2,715 hours driving the Morris Hospital Transportation Bus. He also volunteered alongside Jill driving for Meals on Wheels and delivering meals to local people in the community.
Bob loved exploring the United States. His ideal vacation included treks across the nation with Jill. Their National Parks adventure began on their honeymoon at Arcadia National Park in June of 1969. They would later visit 47 National Parks and all 13 Presidential Museums on their many trips.
Bob was known for his love for tinkering and all his toys. He was an avid boater and enjoyed being the captain of his Carver, Jill's Joy 2. He spent countless hours on the lake and passed on his love for boating and the water to his family and friends.
Bob had a passion for anything with a motor. He loved snowmobiling, riding his Spyder, driving his Mustang (or just driving in general), boating, watching the Bears, campfires and spending time with his family. Above all else, Bob loved to share his time and his toys with his family and friends. There was nothing better than sharing his home, his toys, his boat and the lake with the people he loved.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
