Obituary

Norbert J.McLuckie, 95 of Coal City, passed away October 13, 2015 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. He was born on September 5, 1920 in Joliet, IL. to the late James and Mary (Berta) McLuckie. He married Bernice Breimer in 1941.


Norbert was a lifelong musician. He started his professional music career at age 14 with the Barney Faletti Orchestra of Coal City. He taught music and was involved with many bands in the Morris, Pontiac, and Kankakee areas. He was still playing in the Joliet American Legion Championship and Frankfurt Brass bands. He served honorably in the U.S.Army Air Corps during WWII, and continued to fly his own plane until this year. He was the founder and owner of McLuckie Oil Company. He partnered with his cousin Bill McLuckie in a steel building construction business. Norbert spent several winters in Key Largo, FL. and later, until now, in Winter Haven, FL. He played in various bands in both Florida towns. He was a lifelong member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, along with the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Elks, Midwest Antique Aircraft Club, EAA, and Kankakee Valley and Winter Haven pilot clubs.

A memorial service will be planned in Winter Haven at a later date.


He is survived by his sons David McLuckie of Coal City and Donald (Teresa) McLuckie of Morris and his grandchildren Lisa (Max) Thain of Tucson, AZ. and Scott McLuckie of Morris. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice in 1994, and his sister Norma Calcaterra


Memorials may be made to the New Hope Presbyterian Church.

Cremation rites will be accorded.


A memorial service will be held at the New Hope Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 23, at 10:00 a.m. with one hour visitation prior to service. Pastor Mark Hughey will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery. Memorial visitation and video tribute will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 at Ferrari Funeral Services (corner of Spring Road and Ferrari Drive).
