Obituary

Michael D. Marizza, age 60, of Coal City, IL. passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Morris Hospital.

He was born on August 8, 1960 in Morris, IL. to Richard Sr. and Sharon (nee Knupp) Marizza. He was raised with his brother and sister in Coal City, graduating from Coal City High School Class of 1978. Mike married Tamera Erickson on November 30, 1990 at the Grundy County Courthouse in Morris. He worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections at both Joliet Prison and Statesville before retiring in 2012.

Mike liked to camp, cook, hunt and fish. He liked cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Bears while enjoying a cold beer. He loved family gatherings where good, home cooked food was always guaranteed. But most of all, Mike loved being surrounded by his family and friends including his "fur babies", Bailey and Brandi.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tammy; his son, Michael J. (Dani) Marizza; his first grandchild who is due later in July; his mother, Sharon Marizza; his brother, Rick (Laura) Marizza;  his sister, Stephanie (Mike) Porterfield; his parents-in-law, Mervin and Betty Erickson; and his sisters-in-law, Cindy (Paul) Hill and Sherri (David) Garrett. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Marizza Sr.

Cremation Rites have been accorded.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Mike's birthday, August 8 th , 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Coal City Area Club. All family and friends are invited.
