Melvin E. Vandygriff "Butch", 72, of Coal City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. He was born on August 11, 1941 in Niles, Michigan the son of the late William W. and Juanita Vandygriff.
Butch moved to Coal City in 1966 and worked in the Coal City School District for 19 years. He was an avid Chicago Bears, Bulls, and White Sox Fan as well as a Nascar Fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Donna F. (Bennett) Vandygriff ; six children Angela (Robert) West, Diane (Leonard) Zapadrnsky , David (Carol) Edman, Debra (Howard) Jolly, Denise (Nancy Ruettiger) Edman, and Delores (Edward) Muhlenbruch; fourteen grandchildren, numerous great and great- great grandchildren. Also survived by a sister Virginia Ann Hazelwood and a brother Thomas W. (Marci) Vandygriff .
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Ferrari Funeral Chapel (1044 Ferrari Drive) in Coal City. Pastor Paul Leclercq will officiate. A memorial visitation will also be held on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 at Ferrari Funeral Services (corner of Spring Rd. and Ferrari Drive) in Coal City.
