Obituary

Marlene Louise Dennison (nee Smeets) passed away peacefully of natural causes at her Diamond, Il. residence on September 3, 2021, surrounded by what mattered most in her life, her loving family and her devoted companion of eight years, Charles Dahmit.

Marlene blessed this earth upon her birth in Joliet, Il on 12/9/1936 to Wally and Nada (Gebhardt) Smeets (Deceased). She had two brothers; Michael Smeets (Rosemary) and Kenny Smeets (both deceased). Marlene met the love of her life at Joliet Central High School, Charles Dennison (deceased, 2002) and married in 1953. She had two children; Deborah Dennison (deceased) and Charles Dennison Jr. (Josephine (Burroughs) Dennison) with whom she shared an incredible relationship.

She was a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren; Mary (Brian) Glagola, Matthew (Tiffany) Dennison,Ryan Voight and to her great grandchildren; Haylie Aeschliman, Rylee and Mykal Glagola, Ethan and Evan Dennison,  Kale, Kaimen (deceased) and Braylie Voight.  She has many nieces and nephews and especially cherished her relationship with nieces, Vanessa (Tony) Seisser and Mischelle (Phil) Kochel. Marlene became a grandparent by love to Shelly (Kevin) Hoffman, Peggy (Neal) Kukman (deceased), Debbie (Patty) Burroughs, Ray (Tina) Burroughs, and Joseph Burroughs (deceased).

Marlene was an inspiration to many.  She retired from Joliet Equipment and involved herself with Dorcas Quilters where she made 52 quilts to those in need through her ministry.  She found pleasure in quilting and made beautiful treasured quilts for many family members. She was also a member of New Community Church in Morris, Il.

Marlene also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and cooking. She never missed a family gathering or an opportunity to see her grandchildren's or great grandchildren's events.  Her infectious laughter and generous heart will be missed by those whom had the gift of knowing her.

Visitation will be held at New Community Church, 705 E. Washington, Morris, Il on Saturday, September 11, at 10:00 am until the time of the Service at 11:00 am, followed by a luncheon at Maria's Restaurant, also in Morris.  She will be cremated at her request and inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be graciously accepted by Lightways Joliet Hospice or New Community Church.
