Louis Tira 95, of Coal City passed away on Thursday October 22, 2009 at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. He was born on August 18, 1914 in Coal City, IL to the late Martin and Maria Tira.
After high school Louis started his career as a carpenter in the Coal City area and served four years in the U.S. army, during WWII. He married Josephine Vilt on May 18, 1946 and continued his career in carpentry at DuPont in Seneca, IL until his retirement in 1977.
He is survived by five children Donald (Rachel) Tira of Coal City, Joel (Cynthia) Tira of Coal City, Stephanie (Dennis)Lane of Sycamore, IL, Joan (Mike) Kabala of St. Charles, IL and Robert (LaVaun) Tira of Coal City, thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, fifteen step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine, four sisters Mary Bono, Victoria Eusebio, Louise Vogen, and Pauline Fornelli, and three brothers John Tira, Keeley Tira, and Dom Tira,
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Funeral services will be held on Monday October 26, 2009 at The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church for a 10:00 am mass, Father Robert Noesen will officiate with inurnment in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 12:00 noon with a luncheon to immediately follow at the Berst Center.
