Kimberly Ann Schmitt, age 64, of Morris, IL passed away on September 21st at home surrounded by her family by her bedside. Born February 13, 1962, Kimberly was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, cherished daughter and sister and friend to many.

Kim was known for the love she gave so freely to her family. She treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren and had immense pride for her family’s accomplishments. She especially loved to receive her grandchildren’s art work to place on “Grandma’s Wall of Fame.” Kim found great joy in bringing her family together, especially through food and the traditions she created in the kitchen through (baking) canning and recipe sharing.

Kimberly had a special passion for bees and beekeeping. A true bee enthusiast, she loved learning about and sharing her knowledge of beekeeping with others; especially her boys who carried on the ‘family business.’ She especially enjoyed sharing the honey she carefully produced, bringing joy to family, friends, and others in her community. Her dedication and skill were recognized at state fairs where her honey earned ribbons; an accomplishment of which she was very proud.

Kim also loved to play bingo. She had a seat at every local hall and a group of friends and family who joined her for weekly games. She passed on this tradition with many nights of the family around the table playing bingo together. Her smile would light up the room whenever her grandkids shouted Bingo to earn a trinket from Grandma.

Later in life, Kim became passionate about her relationship with Jesus Christ. She spent her last days surrounded by family reading her Bible passages that she grew to cherish. She was excited to be welcomed Home into His loving arms and reunited with so many that have passed before her.

Kimberly is lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Schmitt, of 26 years, her children George (Brianne) Kaluzny, Robert (Brittney) Kaluzny, Paul (Amanda) Kaluzny, and Chris (Katy) Kaluzny, Robert Schmitt , Jeff (Sarah) Schmitt and Brad Schmitt along with 16 grandchildren Robert David, Izzabella, Ezekiel, Emerlyn, Gabriella, Brice, Sebastian, Larkyn, Hudson, Carter and Theodore Kaluzny and Josh (Amanda) Porterfield-Schmitt), Magdelyn, Eliott, Joseph and Anisa Schmitt. She is also remembered by her father Robert (Maggie) Onderisin and siblings Dan (Danny) Onderisin, David (Diana) Onderisin and Cindy (Tim) Bowman along with her brother-in-law Frank (Claudette) Schmitt.

Preceded in death by her mother and best friend, Dixie Onderisin, as well as her aunt, Kay Velasquez, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kimberly leaves behind a legacy of love, family, generosity and simple joys she found in sharing what she loved with others. The memories created together will remain treasured reminders of her.

Memorial Visitation will take place at  Ferrari Funeral Services in Coal City on Thursday, September 24th from 4- 7 PM.

Funeral Mass will be held at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Coal City on Friday, September 25th at 10 AM with luncheon to follow. Father Joshua Miller will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Lightways Hospice Care Services or Just Animals Animal Shelter.
