John L. Gumbs Sr., 87 of Coal City, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Heritage Health in Dwight, IL.

He was born September 29, 1930 in St. Thomas Virgin Islands to John Claude and Eugenie Blanchard Gumbs. He married Joy Kodat. He was a member of the Laborer's Local #75 in Joliet, working many years for Crown Tryg Construction.

John enjoyed watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears.

He is survived by his son, John Gumbs Jr., grandchildren Justine Gumbs, Nikkie Giordano, Tony Giordano and Danielle Heinstra. Also surviving is his great grandson, Cole Giordano.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joy, in 2010 and a daughter Millie Giordano.

As were John's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will be at a later date at Braceville/Gardner Cemetery. Ferrari Funeral Services is entrusted with arrangements.
