Janet I. Vilt (nee Reeves) 71, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at her home with her loving husband by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born January 1, 1944 in Plainfield, IL. Janet was a daughter to Truman and Estella (Smith) Reeves. She was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Township High School. On October 20, 1962 Janet married Ronald Vilt Sr. at the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington. Together they lived in Carbon Hill and Custer Park before settling in Wilmington.
Janet was a real estate managing broker for Honig Realty in Wilmington then later retired from Johnson and Johnson in 2000. Janet and her husband own the Vilt Professional Center. She was a member of the Island City Baptist Church in Wilmington.Janet enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and took pleasure in volunteering at their schools. In her free time Janet played cards, enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends especially to Fort Myers Beach, FL. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Janet is survived by her devoted husband Ronald of 53 years; sons Ron (Julie) Vilt of Wilmington and Jeff (Melissa) Vilt of Coal City; daughters Renee ( Jim) Lardi and Jennifer (Mario Solis) Vilt of Wilmington; eight granddaughters Lorna, Kate, Emily and Sarah Vilt, Kelly, Ashley and Kaitlyn Lardi and Holly Vilt; one great granddaughter Meghan; three step grandchildren; loving sister and best friend Janelle (Dennis) Barnes of New Lenox , sister Wilma Williams of Laverne, CA. sisters in law Arlene Reeves of Lakeland, FL.and Maria Reeves of Joliet, former daughter in law Dawn Vilt of Coal City; numerous nieces and nephews including Brian and Jeremy Barnes. Dear friends also survive especially Carol Williams, Carol Keigher, Paula Skiotes, and Victoria Reccia.. A special thank you to her caregivers Lynn and Deb and the Joliet Area Community Hospice for their tender care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Cliff, Robert and Norman Reeves; sister Anita Walker, nephews Michael Walker, Thomas Reeves and Buddy Williams.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will be at Plainfield Township Cemetery in Plainfield.
Memorial contributions in Janet's name may be directed to Kuzma Cottage, the Island City Baptist Church or Joliet Community Hospice.
