Herman L Stiles, age 84, of Coal City, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Arc Nursing Home in Dwight, IL.

He was born October 5, 1939, in Alcoa, TN to Clyde and Mary (nee Norwood) Stiles.  After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years in Alaska, Wyoming and Illinois.

On April 7, 1961, he married the love of his life, Patsy E Henderson in Maryville, TN.  Following his service in the military he began a career with Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet where he worked until his retirement after 30 years of service. He was an active member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City for many years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially taking his grandchildren on many trips to visit his Tennessee family.

He was well known for his ability to fix anything, be it small engines, lawn mowers, motorcycles, cars and anything around the house.  He passed these skills along to his children and grandchildren.  In his early years he enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles.  Later interests included wood working and gardening. He was also an avid University of Tennessee sports fan.

Survivors include his two sons, Tim of Carbon Hill, IL and Darren (Julie) of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren Cameron Stiles (Alexis) of Coal City, Colin Stiles of North Augusta, SC, and Rebecca Stiles of Augusta, GA. He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Bruce) Wilkerson of Coal City and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by is wife of 43 years Patsy in 2004, mother and father Clyde and Mary Stiles, as well as brother Kenneth Stiles and sister Mary Scurry.

Memorials in Herman's memory may be directed to the New Hope Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Ferrari Funeral Services, 1044 Ferrari Drive, Coal City, IL 60416.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Monday, July 29, 2024 at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 N. Garfield Street, Coal City, IL with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Pastor Jan Chandler will officiate.

Burial will follow at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.

Pall Bearers will be: Colin Stiles, Cameron Stiles, Nathan Dean, Mark Wilkerson, Tracy Wilkerson and Jake Borchelt. Honorary Pall Bearers will be: Becca Stiles and Alexis Stiles.
