Gordon Hayer Boldt 1948-2015

Gordon H. Boldt, age 67, of Gooselake, Township, passed away early Saturday morning, June 20, 2015, at Kindred Hospital in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Christian Church, 455 W Southmor Road, Morris, with his son Pastor Greg Boldt officiating. Burial rites conduced by Pastor Charles Richardson will follow in Section Cemetery, Miller Township with full military rites conducted by the Marseilles American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00-8:00 at the First Christian Church and one hour preceding the services at the First Christian Church, Morris.

Pallbearers will be Brian Boldt, Steve Boldt, John Yanites, Jim Borror, Greg Borror, Barry Borror and Ed Keister.

Born May 14, 1948 in Miller Township to Clyde and Margaret Boldt, Gordon attended Milton Pope Grade School and graduated from Seneca High School with the class of 1966. Graduating from Illinois State University, he taught in both agriculture and biology classes at Coal City High School where he met his wife of 41 years Sue (Borror) Boldt.. He was the proud father of two sons Jeffrey Gordon (Brittany McKeown) of Whitewater, Wisconsin and Gregory Aaron Boldt (Melissa Shirley) of Toledo, Illinois. He was Grampa to Ian, Jaxon, Jenna, Caylah, and Ryan Boldt. All who survive him.

He is also survived by his sister Joanne (Francis) Kasten of Seneca, James (Chery) Boldt of Marseilles, and David (Cindy) Boldt of Grand Ridge along with his nieces Denise Bernstein, Debbie Kasten, Elizabeth (Nate) Lesman, and nephews Matthew (Robyn) Boldt and Jeremy (Julie ) Boldt.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Ronald and his nephew Jason Boldt.

Gordy, as referred to by close family members and friends, was a member of the First Christian Church of Morris, where he was active in delivering mobile meals and serving with P.A.D.S.

An avid toy tractor collector, Gordon travelled throughout Illinois and surrounding states enjoying toy shows. Growing up on a dairy farm, Gordon's interest in farming and dairy cows extended to his participation in the Seneca FFA as a high school student and in dairy cattle showing as a youth. Folllowing those interests as an adult, he taught Ag at Woodland High School, served as manager of the Verona Elevator and as a Vice-president and Loan Manager at the Verona Exchange Bank, dealing daily with area farmers. Serving as Dairy superintendent of the Grundy County Fair for over 20 years, he enjoyed working with farmers throughout the state of Illinois. In addition to working at the Grundy County Fair, Gordon served as a leader of the Town and Country 4-H club for 14 years and in various leadership positions in the Grundy County 4-H program.

Interested in the lives of children, he served on the Coal City School Board His six- year service in the Illinois National Guard earned him the Chicago Tribune Award for outstanding Illinois Guardsman.

Memorials in Gordon's name can be made to the First Christian Church of Morris, Toledo Christian Church and Star of Hope.
