Obituary

Esther Loretta (Meagher) Harmon, age 97 and 8 months, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, 2015. Having won the "lottery of life" to "Live Long and Die Short," Mrs. Harmon will be missed by her loving family and many friends.

A native of Ottawa IL, and long-time resident of Joliet (1945-1978), Coal City IL (1978- 2010), and Morris IL (2010-2015), Mrs. Harmon is survived by her four children (Margy Tippie of Salem VA, Ellie Roe of Roseville CA, Larry Harmon of Show Low AZ, and Marci Ariagno of Menlo Park CA), plus 15 Grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren who reside in IL, VA, FLA, TX, and CA), and who will miss her gentle ways and ever-positive outlook on life.


In need of some help so that she could live out her life in her own home in CC (1978-2010) and then at Park Pointe Senior Living (2010-2015), and Park Pointe Rehab & Health Care (June 24-Oct. 11) in Morris, and then Joliet Area Community Hospice (Oct. 12-31), Mrs. Harmon also counted the spouses of her four children (Edwin Tippie, Ralph Roe, Cindy Harmon, and Dr. Ron Ariagno), the "Latimer Cousins" (especially John & Peggy Latimer, Sherrie Latimer Kowalczyk & Vinnie Kowalczyk, Lori Latimer Senior, Lisa Latimer Knupp, Geraldine Latimer Black) and friend & neighbor, Mary Trevino, "like having 4 + 4 + 4 and More..." children to help care for and love her till the end.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold James Harmon; her sister, Betsy Latimer; her brothers, Robert and James Meagher; and her mom and dad, Mary Amelia and James Meagher.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice (&/or with a Memorial Brick, which can be ordered on-line at www.joliethospice.org/memorial-bricks.html), or a donation to Grundy Three Rivers Habitat for Humanity.

Visitation will take place from 10:00-11:00a.m.until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 both at the Immaculate Conception Church in Morris. Rev. Edward J. Howe, CR will officiate. A reception luncheon held in the Parish Hall, at St. Angela's Room, will be offered immediately following the mass. Family and friends may also attend the burial which will take place following the lunch, at St. Columba's Catholic Cemetery (1800 N 2990th Road, off Dayton Road, Ottawa IL).
