Emma “Jean” Brigid Peters, age 80, of Coal City, IL passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

She was born on January 29, 1946 in Elk Horn City, KY to Fonso and Blanche (nee Thacker) Wright. She grew up in her large family of 12 children. Jean married Frank J. Peters on December 6, 1963 in Michigan. Together they raised two sons. She enjoyed tending to her vegetables and flower garden. Walleye fishing was a favorite way to enjoy the outdoors. When she lived on the family farm, she liked taking care of her chickens. Jean loved her dog, Jake and granddog, Nova.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank; her sons, Philip (Risa) Peters and Timothy (Mary Macon) Peters Sr.; her grandchildren, Meaghan Peters, Nathaniel Peters and Timothy Peters Jr. and her great-grandson, Carsten Peters. Also surviving are her siblings, Raymond “Cub” Wright, Pebble Hurley, Betty Davis, Dallas (Debby) Wright, Douglas (Linda) Wright, Audrey “Clyde” Wright, Bob (Jenny) Wright and Teresa Stewart and family friend Victor Blair.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Jaden Peters, and her siblings, Patty Perkins and Avonell Abshire.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, July 3, 2026 at the Assumption Catholic Church, 215 S. Kankakee Street in Coal City. Father Josh Miller will officiate and Deacon William Dunn will assist.
