Obituary

Earl S. Allen, 89, of Coal City, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Joliet Area Community Hospice. He was born in Naniamo, BC, Canada on Sept. 8, 1923 to Margaret (Little) and Thomas Allen. He was an area resident from 5 years of age on.

Earl is survived by his daughter, Margaret (Gary) Peck and his son, Stephen (Hope) Allen. He is additioinally survived by 4 grandchildren; Carrie Reichert, Frank (Jenny) Niemi, Ryan (Sally) Allen and Lori (Jonathan) Mata, as well as 6 great-grandchildren; Joe, Sam and Jack Reichert, Rebecca and Andrew Niemi and Alaina Mata.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Allen, his parents, Margaret and Thomas Allen and 3 brothers, Thomas, Glenn and Hugh Allen.

Earl served his country in WWII as a Pilot in the Army Air Corp. He flew as Pilot in Command on the C47, C54, B25 and the B26 through South America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. His rank at time of discharge was 1st Lt. Golf was an ongoing passion with Earl. He was a long time member of the Morris Country Club and served on its board for many years. He was in the insurance business since 1963, opening Earl Allen Insurance Agency, Inc. in 1985. Recently, Earl headed up a committee to upgrade and preserve the Veterans Monument located outside of the Coal City Intermediate School. He was extremely proud as well as grateful to all on the committee and to those who donated their time and/or money to that endeavor.

Per Earl's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no wake or funeral services. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Memorial contributions to the Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 would be appreciated by the family.
