Obituary

Charles L. "Bum" Bumgardner, 71, of Carbon Hill, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

He was born October 14, 1946 in Patoka, IL. to Robert and Mildred (nee Beckler) Bumgardner. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church. He married Kathleen L. (nee Vanden) Yahnke on February 27, 2009 in Ottawa, IL. Bum retired from the Laborers Union Local #75 after over 30 years. He was a Maintenance Supervisor for Carbon Hill and Supervisor for Felix Twp. He was presently the Felix Twp. Road Commissioner.

Bum enjoyed racing stockcars in Grundy County for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 796. He liked to meet with friends for a good cup of coffee. He loved people and never met a stranger. If he was needed, he couldn't say "No". Bum was a compassionate and gentle man who always had a kind word for everyone.

He is survived by his wife of over 9 years, Kathleen; daughter Jamie (Jason) Haas of Marysville, OH.; sisters Cheryl (Ron) Stockman of Coal City; Pam (Tom) Jaronski of Morris and Robin (Arlan) Hogan of Fort Wayne, IN.; 2 stepdaughters Shelly (Matt) Loechel of Woodridge and Tamara Walcavich of Middleton, WI. Also surviving are his grandchildren Kiala and Alexandra Haas, Ryan Loechel, Casey Van Iten and Gunnar Walcavich and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons William "Billy" Bumgardner and Michael Bumgardner in infancy.

Memorials may be made in Charles' name to the Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road, Coal City, IL. 60416

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Ferrari Funeral Chapel (corner of Spring Road and Ferrari Drive) in Coal City. Rev. Bradley Shumaker will officiate. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Perry Majors, Tim Sayers, Tom Sayers, Denny Cox, Jason Haas, Arlan Hogan, Tom Jaronski and Glenn Huston.
