Alan J. Burkhardt, age 81 of Dwight, IL, formerly of Gardner, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

He was born on March 21, 1942 in Joliet, IL to Wayne C. and Ruth A. (nee Morris) Burkhardt. Alan was raised in rural Gardner, attending Goodfarm Grade School and graduating from Gardner South Wilmington High School with the class of 1960. He went on to attend Bradley University and graduated with a degree in accounting. Alan was also a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Edward Christensen of Coal City; his niece, Jori Christensen of Coal City; his nephew, Dana (Tori) Christensen of Florida; his great nieces, Mackenzie (Drew Pierce) Christensen and Ryleigh Christensen, both of Coal City and Jillian (Dennis) Ceballos, Abigail Christensen and Elsa Christensen, all of Oregon; his great nephews, Brodie Christensen and Aiden Christensen of Oregon and his great-great nephew, Spencer Christensen. Also surviving is his dear friends, George Cain and his family along with numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Ruth Burkhardt; his sister, Sandra (Burkhardt) Christensen and a brother in infancy.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

There will be a private family graveside service at Braceville Gardner Cemetery with Pastor Jan Chandler officiating.
